The rearview mirror and the windshield serve as compelling metaphors for transitioning from one year to the next. The rearview mirror symbolizes the importance of reflection, allowing us to glean valuable lessons from our past. However, we must avoid becoming too anchored in what has already occurred; this is why the windshield is significantly larger than the rearview mirror.
We should take the insights gained from our experiences and use them to shape our future endeavors, fully embracing the belief that what lies ahead can be even greater and more impactful than what is left behind.
Reflecting on 2024
Last year at KeithRN, we recognized that our work holds considerable significance. We engaged with numerous educators through conferences and webinars, and our discussions were insightful and meaningful.
Many of you continue to express concerns regarding student engagement, anxiety and depression among students and colleagues, and instances of incivility.
We are pleased that we have solutions to address these challenges. The Think Like A Nurse Membership offers case studies on incivility, a professional identity development contract, and a comprehensive array of case studies and resources designed to enhance student engagement.
As we gaze into our rearview mirror, we are filled with gratitude for the opportunity to connect with each of you and for the meaningful relationships we have established. We are also humbled by the feedback we have received, affirming the value of our resources and services.
We will take this gratitude and affirmation into the New Year to continue producing innovative teaching and learning resources that will best serve you and your students and maintain the focus on positive patient outcomes.
Looking forward to 2025
We will continue to focus on developing products and services that support nurse educators, promote clinical judgment among students, and emphasize patient care.
We have intentionally chosen to prioritize the development of a strong professional identity, highlighting the significance of caring, thinking, feeling, and behaving like a nurse. Until now, KeithRN has primarily focused on the thinking and acting dimensions of nursing. We acknowledge the need to stress the caring and emotional aspects of the profession as well so that we can genuinely reform nursing education.
Incorporating professional identity formation and its four pillars—values and ethics, knowledge, leadership, and professional comportment—into our teaching can partially mitigate many challenges currently confronting the nursing profession, such as incivility and anxiety. Many of these resources are already available in our Think Like a Nurse Membership. We will highlight and revise the resources throughout 2025.
Furthermore, we are preparing to launch the second course within our KeithRN Hub. Scheduled for release in the Spring of 2025, this clinical course will streamline and standardize the onboarding process for clinical faculty and preceptors while aligning with CCNE accreditation standards.
Lastly, we recognize the importance of educating faculty about the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI). As AI continues to emerge as a prominent topic in education, many nursing professionals require support in embracing this technology, understanding its implications, and guiding students in its appropriate application. We are committed to thorough research, synthesizing relevant literature, and providing you with best practices in this area.
We sincerely appreciate your engagement throughout the past year and look forward to a reformative 2025 in nursing education, where passion and progress go hand in hand!
Take care,
